For the past decade, he has been dedicated to optic nerve head imaging using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA) in glaucoma. For the first time ever, he has documented reversal of the lamina cribrosa deformation after intraocular lowering treatment, and proved that choroidal microvascular dropout detected by OCTA reflects true perfusion defect. He also documented the change of optic disc in myopic children and thereby trigger the research on the effect of myopic disc change on the development and progression of glaucoma. He was awarded the World Glaucoma Association Research Recognition Award (2011), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Best Paper Award (2012), AAO Achievement Award, and APAO Achievement Award. Prof. Kim has published more than 150 papers in international peer-reviewed SCI journals, and has been served as an Editorial board for Journal of Glaucoma and International Glaucoma Review.
