Dr Roger A. Dana is a theoretical physicist by academic training with degrees from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and Stanford University. After graduate school, he worked at Hughes Aircraft Company for 3 years where he learned what decibels are and participated in the design of air defense radars. He was at Mission Research Corporation for 24 years, working on problems in global navigation, space-based radar, and satellite communications systems caused by ionospheric scintillation. The last 15 years of his career were at the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) of Collins Aerospace, where he worked at the intersection of math, physics, and electronic systems. While at ATC he developed and taught 10 short courses in the area of electronic systems and associated mathematics and mentored many in the art of aerospace engineering. He retired from full-time employment at the end of 2019, and is now a part-time consultant and teacher.
