Prof. Dingli Zhang, a professor of Beijing Jiaotong University, is the dean of the Sichuan–Tibet Railway Research Institute, the academic leader of the national key discipline "bridge and tunnel engineering," and also the director of the Key Laboratory for Urban Underground Engineering of Ministry of Education. He has been mainly engaged in the teaching and research work of tunnel and underground engineering. He is fully participated in the construction of major projects in China's railway, highway, and subway tunnels. His researches are mainly focused on four aspects including tunnel design theory, the construction technology of subsea tunnel using drill and blast method, the safety risk control of urban underground engineering construction, the evalutation and synergetic control of long-term tunnel safety. He has made innovative research results in the above fields and formed a systematic theoretical understanding and core technology system. He is the chief scientist of several national key technology research and development programs of China and has been awarded several awards for scientific and technological progress.
