Bernadette Kushartanti is a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia, Indonesia. Her research interests are language variation, language acquisition and interaction. Dwi Noverini Djenar is Associate Professor in Indonesian Studies at the University of Sydney, Australia. Her research interests are in topics related to self and addressee reference, youth language practices, and place reference in interaction. She has published books and articles in the areas of discourse and pragmatics, sociolinguistics and grammar, focusing on Indonesian, including ‘Semantic, Pragmatic and Discourse Perspectives of Preposition Use: A Study of Indonesian Locatives’ (Pacific Linguistics, 2007), ‘Indonesian Reference Grammar’ (with J. Sneddon, A. Adelaar and M.C. Ewing; Allen & Unwin/Routledge, 2010), ‘Style and Intersubjectivity in Youth Interaction’ (with M.C. Ewing and H. Manns; De Gruyter 2018).
