Barrie Bullen was an undergraduate at Cambridge, Junior Research Fellow at Oxford and is now Professor of English at the University of Reading. He has had a long-standing interest in interdisciplinary studies and his books include The Expressive Eye: Vision and Perception in the Work of Thomas Hardy (OUP 1986), The Myth of the Renaissance in Nineteenth-Century Writing (OUP 1995) and The Pre-Raphaelite Body: Fear and Desire in Painting, Poetry, and Criticism (OUP1998). He has edited Roger Fry's Vision and Design (OUP 1981), Clive Bell's Art (OUP 1987) and has compiled Post-Impressionists in England for Routledge (1988). His most recent book is a history of the Byzantine Revival entitled Byzantium Rediscovered (2003). He is co-editor of the interdisciplinary series Focus on Contemporary Issues for Reaktion Books and has taught widely in America and Europe.
