Professor John Wong, an experienced retired orthopaedic surgeon, dedicated 23 years of his career as a consultant at Altnagelvin Hospital in Northern Ireland. Throughout his tenure, he exhibited a deep passion for teaching and research, actively teaching undergraduate students from prestigious institutions such as Queen's University Belfast and Ulster University Londonderry. Moreover, his expertise extended beyond the boundaries of those two institutions, as he also contributed to annual instructional courses designed for postgraduate surgical trainees throughout the island of Ireland. Professor John Wong’s sub-specialty was foot and ankle surgery, and with a wealth of experience and expertise, he made significant contributions to the medical community. Notably, he held the esteemed position of president at the Irish Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (IOFAS). Professor Wong's research endeavours earned him widespread recognition, as the prestigious IOFAS annual research prize had been renamed "The John Wong IOFAS Scientific Award" in honour of his outstanding contributions to the field.
