Dr. Despina Karakatsani is a Professor of Pedagogy at the University ofthe Peloponnese, Greece. She obtained a PhD in Sciences of Educationfrom the University of Paris 8-Saint Denis in France in 1998, afterwhich she taught at the University of Crete, Greece (1998-2004), and atthe University of Democritus, Greece (1998-1999). Since 2004, she hasbeen teaching at the Faculty of Social and Education Policy in theUniversity of the Peloponnese, and since 2006, at the Open University ofAthens, Greece. She was a research follow at the Oxford BrookesUniversity, United Kingdom, in 2010-2011. Her research interests includehistory of citizenship education, child welfare, pedagogical ideas andalternative educational methods. She has published several articles inGreek and international journals, and has also participated in severalEuropean projects in cooperation with Dare (Democracy and Human RightsEducation), CiCe (Children's Identity and Citizenship in Europe), andNece (Networking European citizenship Education). She is the co-authorof the book 'Strengthening Young Bodies, Building the Nation: A SocialHistory of Child Health and Welfare in Greece (1890-1940)', which waspublished in 2019. Dr. Vassiliki Pliogou is an Associate Professor at the Department ofEarly Childhood Education, in the School of Humanities and SocialSciences at the University of Western Macedonia (UoWM), Greece, on thesubject of Pedagogy and Applications in Education. She is the Directorof the Laboratory of the Pedagogical Studies and Innovative EducationalPractices. She is also the ERASMUS Departmental Coordinator, theDepartmental Placement Coordinator and the Deputy President of theScientific Supervisory Board of the Pilot and Experimental Schools (EPS)in Kastoria. She is a member of the Ethics Committee and the ResearchEthics Committee of the UoWM. She is the Departmental Representative inthe Children’s Identity & Citizenship European Association (CiCEA) andthe Departmental Representative in the European Network Democracy andHuman Rights Education in Europe (DARE). She is a member of the Centrefor Teaching and Learning Support of the UoWM and the Committee of theStudies for the Pedagogical and Didactic Competence, too. She is theDeputy President of the Gender Equality and Anti-DiscriminationCommittee of the UoWM. Her publications in collective volumes, Greek andInternational Journals and proceedings, focus on human rights education,childhood and children’s rights, citizenship, family-school connection,gender and educational implementations using different pedagogical toolsin various formal and non-formal educational environments.
