Dr. Su-Yin Tan is a senior lecturer at the University of Waterloo (Canada). She teaches courses on geographic information systems, remote sensing, and spatial data analysis. She is a distinguished Gates Scholar and received her PhD degree from the University of Cambridge (UK), two Masters degrees from Oxford University (UK) and Boston University (USA), and a BSc (Env) from the University of Guelph (Canada). Dr. Tan has also chaired the Department of Space Applications and regularly serves as a visiting lecturer at the International Space University’s Space Studies Program. Dr. Tan has an interdisciplinary background in the environmental sciences and spatial data analysis methodologies in a range of application areas, such as climatology, ecosystem modeling, and remote sensing. Dr. Tan has built a diverse record of research experience in North America, Australia, Asia, South America, and Europe. Although born in Canada, she was raised in Papua New Guinea, where she developed an interest in conservation. She maintains an interest in issues related to space technologies and environmental applications.
