Brian Douglas Tennyson is professor emeritus in the department of history at Cape Breton University and also served as founding director of the university's Centre for International Studies. A specialist in early twentieth-century Canadian political history, he has published nineteen books, including Nova Scotia at War, 1914–1919, which won the Democracy 250 Atlantic Book Award for Historical Writing in 2018, and Merry Hell, which was shortlisted for the George Borden Writing for Change Award (Nonfiction) at the Dartmouth Book Awards in 2014.
