Charles Hohmann wurde am 16. Juli 1947 in Alexandria (VAR) geboren. Seine Schulzeit verbrachte er in Alexandria, Abingdon (UK) und der Schweiz, bevor er an der Universität Fribourg (i. Üe.) englische und französische Literatur studierte. 1982 forschte er am Englischen Seminar der Universität Zürich und verfasste seine Doktorarbeit über den postmodernen amerikanischen Autor Thomas Pynchon.
