Née en Australie, Geraldine Brooks vit aujourd'hui aux États-Unis sur l'île de Vineyard (Massachusetts). Correspondante pour The Wall Street Journal pendant quatorze ans, elle a couvert des combats en Bosnie, en Somalie et au Moyen-Orient. Une incarcération dans les geôles nigériennes la pousse à abandonner le journalisme. Elle se consacre alors à la rédaction de son premier roman, 1666 (Calmann-Lévy, 2003 ; 10/18, 2004). Lauréate du prix Pulitzer avec March, en 2006, elle est également l'auteur
