Susan Barker, autrice d'origine sino-britannique, a grandi dans l'est de Londres. Elle a étudié la philosophie à l'université de Leeds et la création littéraire à l'université de Manchester. Depuis 2005, elle a publié quatre romans qui ont été sélectionnés pour divers prix littéraires. Son œuvre lui a valu d'être boursière de l'Arts Council England et de la Society of Authors ainsi que du Royal Literary Fund de la Leeds Trinity University. Elle a également été artiste résidente à la Corporation of Yaddo, à la Hawthornden International Writers' Retreat et à la Red Gate Gallery de Pékin.
