Tom Gruchy was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, in 1948, and graduated from Brother Rice. From 1969 to 1974, he worked several jobs before joining the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His first posting, in April 1975, was in St. John’s.

Tom has served as a municipal enforcement officer with the Town of Conception Bay South and the City of Mount Pearl, and he spent thirteen years in vehicle sales and as business manager for several local automobile dealerships. He fully retired in 2011.
